31/03/2009 10:52:26 PM - Karen McLean

Another beautiful sunny day of racing was had at Gunnedah Speedway Saturday March 28th, Gunnedah hosted the Easter Cup for 2009 in conjunction with Round 4 of the Club Championship. Although the day started out with a dry and slippery track the surface soon came good and gave way to some of the best racing we have seen.
120cc. Heat 1: It was Clayton Small 91 who started the days racing , Clayton was able to hold out 63 Jayke Brien all the way to the finish line taking out 1st place with Jayke 2nd , Kemble 99 3rd and Ellie in 4th. Heat 2: Ellie soon heated up the days racing, showing everyone just how much of a little power house she has become, Ellie started on pole and held it all the way to the finish line, leaving her big brother Clayton to settle for 2nd, Jayke in 3rd and Kemble to take 4th. Heat 3: Kemble came back in full form after having a few spins in his previous heats, Starting on pole Kemble wasn't about to let go of his front position , he drove an outstanding race and kept his front position all the way to the finish line taking home 1st ahead of Clayton in 2nd, Jayke in 3rd and Ellie finishing close behind in 4th. Feature: The 25 lap feature was action packed in mid field with the dicing between Jayke and Ellie fighting for 2nd and 3rd.
But it was Clayton Small that was the major force of the day , with a heat win and two second places in his heats , Clayton started the main event from pole and took it all the way to the end. Clayton finished 1st, Jayke fought hard and fast to keep in second , whilst Ellie eventually settled in to take third and Kemble taking 4th place.
160cc. Although it was a small field of 160 drivers , it was a good opportunity to gain some all important track time for these drivers. Heat 1, Mitch Brien ,newly crowned Australia 1, dominated heat 1 taking out 1st ahead of Ben Wright 2, and 3rd was Rylee Walsh car 6. Heat 2: Ben took home the honours with Rylee in 2nd and Mitch suffering a DNF. Heat3: Mitch started on pole and took it all the way home after doing some mechanical adjustments , which left Rylee and Ben to battle for 2nd & 3rd, after Ben suffered a spin early in the race , The Birthday girl, Rylee, was able to hold Ben out to finish in 2nd with Ben in 3rd. Feature: It was Mitch who ran all the way home from starting on pole to finishing in 1st place Ben was 2nd and Rylee took home 3rd.
